Erfaringssentrum is the national interest organization for experience consultants (peer support workers) in Norway. We work to promote the use of experiential competence and experience-based knowledge in health and care services, social work, and other arenas where human experience is a valuable resource.

As an organization, we provide experience consultants with a platform for professional development, networking, and advocacy. We organize conferences, courses, and professional gatherings where experience consultants, employers, researchers, and other stakeholders can share knowledge and experiences.

Erfaringssentrum also works actively to highlight the role, rights, and importance of experience consultants, both in society and among decision-makers. We are a central voice representing the interests of experience consultants at the national level. By bringing together and strengthening experience consultants, we contribute to better services, greater recognition of lived experience, and the development of practices based on real-life expertise from people who have lived through these experiences themselves.

We are also interested in international dialogue and collaboration. We welcome contact from organizations, professionals, and networks in other countries who are working with lived experience, peer support, or similar approaches.

What is experience competence?

Experiential competence (lived experience expertise) is knowledge developed through personal life experiences, for example experiences related to mental health, substance use, social exclusion, or interactions with public services. When these experiences are reflected upon and consciously used in professional work and development processes, they become a valuable resource for improving services and creating more inclusive societies.
